PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Welcome to 2001. We hope you had a happy festive season and are making the most of a warm summer. All the best to a number of our keen skiers are off again to the northern hemisphere to enjoy the snow and making us envious in the process! Whilst our ski season seems so far away, March 1st is rapidly approaching so don't forget to fill in the enclosed booking forms so you have the best chance of being booked in for your preferred times.
Some great news since last Cold Facts is that the new ladies and gents bathrooms will be complete for this winter, and what a huge improvement they will be. There have already been two working bees this summer, primarily for the bathrooms, and we have another two or three working bees to finish them off and do a lot of regular maintenance jobs to keep the lodge in good shape. If you haven't been to a working bee for a while please contact Phil or Steve as we often struggle to have enough labour for all the work. Please find more details in the following report.
The other good news is that we now have the following web site on the internet, and are obviously contactable be e-mail.
www.iacski.com
The site is very new with more changes still being carried out, and any suggestions will be appreciated so don't be shy. Some of your on-line advantages will be:
Much of this information should be helpful for both members and guests so please let us know what you think. Many thanks to Mike Dileva and Phil Warren for setting this up.
What we would now like are the e-mail addresses of all of our members, so urgent news and reminders can be immediately sent without having to wait for the next issue of Cold Facts. Could you please e-mail Mike by accessing the web site, going to the committee page and clicking on his name. This will open a box so you can type a message. Please send him your e-mail address so it can be included with your details, and also advise whether you would rather read Cold Facts on the net in preference to receiving a hard copy. We'd notify you that it was out.
Other than having a web site address, we now also have a new Post Office box address and Margaret's direct address for your bookings, see front cover for both, so please check before sending in your bookings. This will save time for Mike and Margaret compared with the problems they had parking to get to the previous Wollongong PO Box.
Hopefully you will make it to one of the working bees this summer for a fun weekend and to help out with some of the upkeep required at the lodge, and let's keep our fingers crossed for another good ski season like the last one.
Jarvis Fletcher
WORKING BEES
Lodge Maintenance
Although it's very short notice the next working bee is on the 25-27th of January. If anyone is available to come down and help with the cleaning up and painting of the NEW bathrooms it would be most appreciated. Not a hard task at all to do.
More working bees are planned for the following dates:- March 3-4, April 7-8 and May 19-20. Please notify Steve Ainge on 0427-252-625 or myself on 02-4275-3463 if you are available for any of these times as your help is required.
Philip Warren
Teddy's Hut Maintenance
The working bee this year will be to Teddy's Hut in the Pilot Wilderness Area of Kosciuszko National Park and be held on the Easter Long Weekend 13th to 16th April 2001. Work outcomes:- to replace fallen timber wall slabs, repair and reseal the hut.
Teddy's Hut is located up stream of the Thredbo creek, out of Dead Horse Gap. There will be NO vehicle or mountain bike access (due to location) therefore all gear will need to be carried on the mornings walk.
For further information about this trip, or the Hut Restoration program please contact Jenny or Peter Charker on Home 02-4226-4269 or Jenny at work Monday to Thursday 02-4261-6161.
X-C Summer Grooming
This work is to improve the snow holding capabilities of the X/C trails. This year it's a bit later than summer - autumn actually. We've scheduled the last weekend in April. You will need a hammer, pliers, gloves, sturdy boots, some old clothes and be prepared to spend a day and a half outdoors. As most of you know the weather in the mountains can change on any day of the year from one extreme to the other so be prepared for snow or blazing sun.
Contact Ian Stuart (02-9412-1402) or Pat Edmondson (02-6457-8181).
Phil, Steve, Jenny and I look forward to hearing from you.

FROM THE CLUB CAPTAIN
Race Update - January 2001
Well ! It's all about to happen again, we all must put in that important ground work to be assured of a smooth running programme combined with a season like 2000. All races were held as scheduled in 2000 with no major problems the Bowl was a great success being held in July but this date was difficult for some clubs for a number of reasons.
There is a new Bowl date for 2001 being Saturday September 1st. This, I feel, is more like the real thing and once again we have asked for Perisher Front Valley. I know this date is a big ask for IAC racers as we have a few consecutive weekends but please give it a go for this year and support all sections of the event. We need you!
Junior Race Training - 2001
The conclusion of last season saw the moving on into the senior ranks of a number of our older juniors, being Brendan Bayly, Johnno Hooper, Aerin Di leva, Krista Sturday and Karina Brown. I would like to congratulated them for taking up the challenge and becoming the great young racers that they certainly are, "Poetry in motion" and we are all proud of them. Please remember to come and race for us as seniors in all Club and Interclub events.
We have a number of new juniors in this years programme, the groups being :-
Advanced Group for 2001 Downhill and Cross country
Gavan Fletcher Annika Sturday Jacinta Hooper Andrew Brown Andrew Dengate Lyndsey Ainge
Lauren Di Milia Brittany Ainge Alexis Dengate
Would the parents of the juniors involved in our training please make sure their children are booked in for both training weeks and as many race weekends as possible. All race dates are shown in Club Programme - 2001
Please let me know NOW if any of the above juniors CANNOT take part in our training. (02 4284 5877). We will also be continuing the training for any other IAC juniors that are in our lodge during both weeks of the July holidays (3 half days of each week) all are welcome. Have a great summer.
Tim Lee
